On the first Wednesday in January, Betty Klepper, retired ARS researcher, and Tami Johlke will repeat a training session they lead at Washington State University’s Wheat Academy. You will learn how and when winter wheat plants develop specific leaves, tillers, roots, and heading structures. “Reading” a plant tells you when plants were healthy and when they were stressed, and these stages of development can be traced back to calendar dates using growing degree day calculations. If you are new or even “old” to wheat plants, this is a rare opportunity to learn from the researchers that “broke the code” on winter wheat growth and development.
The “First Wednesday” Lunchtime Discussions – All are welcome to the agricultural research station get together on a monthly basis to talk research findings, issues, ideas, and aspirations. We meet the first Wednesday of every month, from 12:05 to maybe 1pm, in the conference room, 48037 Tubbs Ranch Rd, Adams OR. It is informal, everyone is welcome, and you can leave whenever you need to. Let me know if you would like to be removed from this email list.
