OR Wheat Stewards

Producers are the lifeblood to our industry and food supply. They are stewards of the land, continuing to implement new and innovative processes and practices to use fewer inputs while producing even higher quality product and ensuring the long-term health of the land. It is, after all, our legacy. However, wheat producers are not often recognized for those dedicated farm stewardship practices. It is a well-known fact folks like to eat, however not all know the struggles producers face getting food to the table. With a decreasing budget, workforce, resources, and land, being able to adapt and change with the environment is critical.

The Oregon Wheat Stewards project was designed to produce dynamic visual materials to help those less familiar with farming practices understand how farmers act as stewards of the land. The project highlights stewardship practices used by Oregon Wheat farmers including state-of-the-art technology, cover crops and crop rotation, variations of tillage systems and a farming practices that ensure efficient product usage.
