Early Career Development Grant Overview

Overview

Funded through the Oregon Wheat Commission, this fund provides resources for graduate students at a qualified Oregon University for the following:
  • Travel to conferences and/or professional meetings at which the student is presenting research on wheat, barley or other small grain topics.
  • Professional development licenses or training courses for graduate students working in programs tied to wheat, barley or other small grain topics.

Eligibility

Individuals must meet all the following criteria to be eligible to apply:
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a graduate program at an accredited Oregon University.
  • In good academic standing, with a support reference letter provided by their academic advisor / supervisor.
  • Individual shall not have received funding through the Commission's Early Career Development Fund in the current fund cycle (July 1-June 30).
  • Pursuing an eligible fund use, with documentation of:
    • Being accepted to present at a conference/professional meeting, or to participate in a professional development conference, workshop, or other opportunity related to their field of study or research project within on wheat, barley or grains. If attending without presenting, documentation on the conference content should be provided.
    • Necessary licensures/ training courses to further advance work in programs tied to wheat, barley or other small grain related topics.

Applicants should complete the Oregon Wheat Early Career Development Fund application (available below) and submit with all requested attachments to scholarship@oregonwheat.org.


Review and Selection

Award Details

Eligible applications will be funded on a first-come first-served basis. Award amounts are based on travel, training and other expenses detailed in the application. However, the maximum individual award amount is $3,000. Graduate students can only receive one award per academic year. Awards will be disbursed as scholarships. These will be paid as one lump sum scholarship payment to the student.

Review and Selection Process

The Oregon Wheat Early Career Development Fund application review is conducted by representatives from the Oregon Wheat Commission. Each application will be reviewed to determine if the applicant meets the eligibility criteria for this fund and provides substantive verification of the use of the funds as tied to Oregon wheat, barley or small grains research. Eligible applications will be funded on a first-come first-served basis until funds are depleted for each cycle (July 1-June 30).

Reporting

Funded applicants will be expected to provide a brief report for the Commission on the impact of the grant award, which may be used in Oregon wheat publications.
